Glass - Minor

The Glass minor is designed to encourage students from all areas of the university to explore working creatively with glass. Students can take coursework in glassblowing, flameworking and kiln-formed glass, which creates a platform for broad understanding of the material and creative forces at play in the medium. Flexibility in the curriculum provides students with choices to design a program to meet individual needs and freedom of expression.

Minor in Glass

Kent State University’s Minor in Glass allows students to enhance their education with specialized knowledge in glass. This minor provides additional career prospects in the art sector.

Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. Create a variety of traditional vessel forms in glass.
  2. Learn fundamentals of hot sculpting using a torch.
  3. Learn how to use molds in the hot glass working process.
  4. Perform cold-working and finishing techniques in the cold shop.
  5. Effectively anneal glass which results in structurally sound sculptures.
Admissions for Glass - Minor

Admission Requirements

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.

  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be upper-division coursework (30000 and 40000 level).
  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be outside of the course requirements for any major or other minor the student is pursuing.
  • Minimum 50 percent of the total credit hours for the minor must be taken at Kent State (in residence).
