Food Truck Fridays Coming to Campus

The new monthly event kicks off April 7 with Mary鈥檚 Urban Kitchen

TGIF gets a new spin starting Friday, April 7, 2023 when Kent State University at Ashtabula launches its Food Truck Fridays event. From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mary鈥檚 Urban Kitchen will be the first vendor to roll into the Main Hall parking lot to serve up delicious fare to locals.

In partnership with the Ashtabula Mobile Food Network, Food Truck Fridays will feature a different food truck on the first Friday of each month through October or November, depending on weather.

鈥淭he main goal of the Ashtabula Food Truck Network is to provide easy access to resources for existing and potential food operates in Ashtabula County,鈥 said Kent State Ashtabula graduate and Ashtabula Mobile Food Network coordinator Kara Norman. 鈥淏ut also to generate awareness and bring mobile food operators to people at a variety of different venues to promote all the available mobile options throughout the county.鈥

Other operators within the Ashtabula Mobile Food Network include Kona Ice, Sloppy Toppy, Cannon Fire Street Grille, Hil-Mak Seafood鈥檚 Fish on the Fly, The Bakery Off Main and more.  Expect to see many of them at Food Truck Fridays throughout the summer.

鈥淢obile food in general, and food trucks specifically, is a rapidly growing industry and there are already a good number of operators here in Ashtabula County,鈥 said Lori Lee, interim director of enrollment management and student services at Kent State, who helped organize the on-campus program. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to be a hub for sharing the food truck experience with everyone in the community and maybe providing a fun outdoor lunch option in a neat location here on campus.鈥  

Vendor schedules for Food Truck Fridays will be shared when available on the campus鈥檚 social media platforms at , and #letseat.
