The Associate Degree in Nursing program at Kent State University at Ashtabula inducted its newest members into the Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society Thursday evening, Dec. 2, 2021. Second-year nursing students Colleen Hurst and Shae Keely represent the newest class inducted on the Ashtabula Campus into the Gamma Sigma Chapter.
The Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society was founded with the intention to promote scholarship and academic excellence in the nursing profession. Alpha Delta Nu encourages the pursuit of advanced degrees in nursing as well as continuing education as a life-long professional responsibility.
In addition to maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and earning a 鈥淏鈥 or better in every nursing class, the students were also responsible for developing a project that would benefit the nursing program in a significant way. Hurst and Keely project supported the Northern Ohio Region of the Red Cross and raised $600 for to help a family recover from Hurricane Ida.
Nursing faculty members Stacy Rose, MSN, and Amy Sustar, MSN, served as co-advisors to the students.
鈥淐olleen and Shae hit a few obstacles in the beginning of their project due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions but worked through that to help a family in need,鈥 Sustar said. 鈥淚t was great working with them.鈥
