The School of Communication Studies hosts the Communication In Action (CIA) event to showcase student work and the diverse range of career paths that are possible with a Communication Studies major.
This year's event will take place April 21, 5-7 p.m. in Taylor Hall, Room 226.
The following classes will be showcasing student work:
Intercultural Communication
- This course examines theory and application of communication between people of different cultures and different national systems.
- The showcase will be featuring photos taken by students relating to course material.
Argumentation and Persuasive Communication
- The course emphasizes processes of reasoning, the nature and use of evidence, recognition of common fallacies, media and information literacy, and generation and construction of valid and ethical arguments.
- The showcase will feature issue briefs created by students relating to course material.
Social Media and Globalization
- The course introduces students to social media and how they operate in a globalized context.
- This showcase will feature infographics created by students relating to course material.
Communication Across the Lifespan
- Explores common life stages (childhood, youth, midlife, and old age) and the transitioning of communication within and between these various stages of development.
- This showcase will feature posters created by students relating to course material.
Freedom of Speech
- Examines historic and contemporary instances relating to freedom of speech; study of limits, rights, responsibilities, and socio-legal-rhetorical issues.
- This showcase will feature posters created by students relating to course material.
Communication and Conflict
- Examination of issues related to managing conflict in communication. Critique and synthesis of conceptual approaches and research pertaining to conflict in interpersonal, organizational, and public communication settings.
- This showcase will feature a video created by students relating to course material.
Relational Communication
- This course provides an exploration of theory and research about the interactions among individuals in personal relationships.
- The showcase will feature videos, podcasts or flyers created by students relating to course material.
Internship
- Experience in a professional setting under professional supervision in student's field of specialization.
- The showcase will feature the students professional portfolio which includes work they have completed during their internship experience.
Travel and Transmedia Storytelling
- Course focuses on guiding students in developing ethical, technological, and intercultural competencies as travelers and travel storytellers.
- The showcase will feature photos taken by students focusing on the application of skills they have learned from the course.
