Meet Jeremy Foust, a David B. Smith Scholarship recipient. Jeremy is a Ph.D. student in Psychological Sciences.

Please give a short overview of your research.

I study health information avoidance, which is when people choose not to learn health information, often because the information is scary or overwhelming. I'm interested in both the reasons that people avoid health related information, and the consequences of choosing to learn or avoid.

What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?

I grew up in Northeast Ohio and was excited for the opportunity to continue my education while staying near my family.

What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school? and/or What do you anticipate taking advantage of at KSU?

I've enjoyed working with my mentor, Dr. Jennifer Taber, and have enjoyed collaborating on research projects with other students and faculty in the psychology department. I've also really enjoyed working with the Center for Teaching and Learning at Kent State to improve my teaching.

What are your future goals?

My goal is to be a college professor, helping students to translate what they learn in the classroom to their everyday lives in a fun, enjoyable, and inclusive classroom environment.

What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?

I'm honored to be recognized for my scholarship and teaching. In the past year in particular, I have worked really hard to become a more productive scholar, as well as an engaging and inclusive educator. This award is evidence of that work and will motivate me to continue to improve in scholarship and teaching.
