GRADUATE COLLEGE FELLOW: KARLI MILLER

Graduate College Fellow - Karli Miller

Meet Karli Miller, a Graduate College Fellow and master's student in the Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs program. Read on to learn more about Karli's favorite places in Kent, what she enjoys doing in her free time and what advice she has for incoming graduate students.

Where is your hometown?

I am from Louisville, Ohio.

Why did you choose Kent State University?

I chose KSU because of my amazing undergraduate experience here. During my time at Kent State I have had the privilege of developing connections and networks that encouraged me to pursue a graduate program. Kent has offered me a supportive environment that pushes me to better myself as an individual and professional.

What do you like most about Kent? Do you have a favorite local spot or activity?

I love downtown! There are so many fun local shops or events that go on throughout the year. My favorite local spot if Rays! They have such a great atmosphere and delicious food.

What is your favorite KSU memory?

My favorite KSU memory is attending future flash days as part of my graduate assistantship. I love sharing this experience with my coworkers and seeing future students experience KSU.

What are some differences you've noticed in being a graduate student (expectations, pressures, visibility, etc.) than those of an undergraduate student?

A large difference that I have noticed is the amount of freedom you have as a student. College is already a very independent educational experience, a graduate program heightens this experience. The expectations are more professional. However, I have noticed that professors, mentors, colleagues, and peers are always willing to lend a helping hand. My time as a graduate student has taught me that all individuals are life-long learners and nobody expects you to be perfect.

What advice do you have for incoming graduate students?

My advice would be to just take things one step at a time. It is easy to become overwhelmed during your graduate experience. Learning to prioritize what you need to accomplish one step at a time has really helped me stay calm and relaxed even in the most stressful of times.

Fun Fact ¿ìè¶ÌÊÓƵ Me:

A fun fact about myself is that I ran a half marathon in September of 2023.
