Meet Elias del Val, a 2023-2024 Graduate Dean's Award recipient. Elias is a doctoral student majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
Please give a short overview of your research.
I am researching invasive plant species and range expansions related to ecosystem degradation and climate change.
The research done by faculty here is in line with my research goals.
What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school? and/or What do you anticipate taking advantage of at KSU?
I enjoy the emphasis on research here, as well as the resources available to help me succeed.
What are your future goals?
I would like to continue doing research, either in academia or working as a curator at a museum.
What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?
This award holds significance for me, as it not only recognizes my achievements but also underscores the importance of diversity and representation in academia. This award will provide me with opportunities for professional growth, and will help me advocate for a more equitable and diverse academic landscape.
