The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded Kent State University’s Min-Ho Kim, Ph.D., assistant professor of biological sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, a $1,842,350 five-year grant. The grant from the NIH’s National Institute of Nursing Research is to develop “nanobombs,” a nanotechnology-based therapeutic platform that can treat biofilm infection in chronic wounds.  Kim will lead a research collaboration with three other research laboratories. The semester ended on a high note for Kent State University’s contemporary a cappella singing group. Dressed in their blue and gold, the Kent Clarks recently shared their talent on the plaza of NBC’s “Today Show.” The 16-member group sang a mix of Top 40 hit songs on the show before heading inside the studio to watch Lady Antebellum perform. The group also met Anna Kendrick, the star of “Pitch Perfect 2.” This is the second star-studded performance for the Kent Clarks in the past few months. Joseph Pritchard of Washingtonville received the prestigious Anna Ulen Engleman Creative Writing Award from the Kent State University English Department. He is a junior at the Kent State Salem Campus, majoring in English. Along with his application for the award, Pritchard submitted a poem for consideration. He will be published in the June issue of Wordgathering (www.wordgathering.com).  Pritchard works as a tutor in the Learning Center on the Salem Campus and hopes to eventually complete a masters of fine arts degree. Insurance studies students from Kent State Salem attended the recent Ohio Insurance Institute’s Insurance Education Day in Columbus, during which three were awarded scholarships.  Representing the Salem chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, the international risk management, insurance and actuarial science collegiate fraternity were Jennifer Buck, president; Dan Newlin, vice president; Michele Quinn, secretary; and member Lisa Kesseg. East Liverpool – Students from Kent State East Liverpool’s occupational therapy assistant program and the physical therapist assistant program recently participated in outreach projects to help make the city a little brighter.   Students from the PTA program were part of the City Sweep event held during Earth Week. They swept sidewalks, pulled weeds and picked up litter all along the east end of Fourth Street and around the campus buildings.
