Quick Tip: Gradebook Search Tools
This week’s quick tip is a simple tool, yet it’s something that’s easily overlooked in the Canvas Gradebook. If you ever get tired of constantly scrolling around looking for a specific student or column, check out the Search tool.
Using the Search fields in the Gradebook
The Search tool is a quick and easy way to save instructors time in navigating their Canvas Gradebooks. There are two separate search fields – one to look up students and one to look up assignments.

There are two ways you can use the Search tool:
You can type in one of the search fields. This will bring up a list of matches, from which you can select the item(s) you want to view.
You can click the drop-down arrow to view a list of items, then select from the list.
Once you search for and select the student(s) and assignment(s) desired, they will be displayed below, along with the Assignment Group and overall Total grade columns.
Example search results:

Remove a search item:
To remove an active search item, click the X next to the assignment or student name in the search field. Once you remove all search items (or if you reload the page), you’ll see the full gradebook again.

We hope you found this Quick Tip helpful. Watch for another gradebook-related Quick Tip next week when we’ll talk about using gradebook filters to make it even easier to find the information you need when you need it!
