Parking and Transportation

What are parking and transportation accommodations?

Parking and transportation accommodations are intended to provide access for students with disabilities that impact their ability to utilize existing parking or transportation options on campus. All students who bring a car to campus are responsible for adhering to all parking requirements and permit restrictions. Students who have a state disability placard should contact Parking Services to get a designated Kent State disability placard to park on campus. When disability-related needs cannot be met using existing transportation resources, such as the campus bus route, state disability placards, and PARTA SATS, a parking accommodation may be appropriate.

Students whose disability substantially impacts their ability to navigate campus should consider the following:

  • Kent State students can utilize free of charge with their Flashcard. PARTA has several campus loops that also service nearby off-campus apartment complexes.

  • Eligible students should apply for a state disability placard whenever possible. Students who have a state disability placard should contact Parking Services to get a designated Kent State disability placard to park on campus. More .

  • SAS may request documentation establishing the student鈥檚 diagnosis rises to the level of a disability and why existing resources are not adequate to meet the student鈥檚 needs.

How do students use parking and transportation accommodations?

Students with parking and transportation accommodations must alert SAS each academic year if the need for the accommodation continues.

SATS Door-to-Door Transportation

This accommodation is appropriate for students whose disability interferes with their ability to utilize standard PARTA bus routes to navigate campus. Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis by SAS and is shared with PARTA SATS each academic year. Students are responsible for contacting PARTA to schedule their rides and for following all set by PARTA.

Parking accommodations

This accommodation is appropriate for students whose disability interferes with their ability to utilize their assigned parking designation. These students may be eligible for a parking accommodation to allow them to park closer to residence halls or classrooms. Specific parking locations (e.g. near residence hall, within 10-minute walk) are determined based on the student鈥檚 disability and will be reviewed each academic year. This accommodation is not appropriate for students who are eligible for a state disability placard. When approved, SAS will communicate the accommodation to Parking Services. Students must visit Parking Services to obtain a new permit.

Temporary parking accommodations

Parking Services provides a temporary parking permit for up to four weeks for students with a temporary injury.
