Coming to Kent State University as a transfer student from a local community college in her hometown of Toledo, Laurel Johnson, ’17, wanted to get involved and become an integrated member of the Kent State University community.
Drawn to Kent State by the communication studies program, Ms. Johnson wanted to further her education and earn a bachelor’s degree after receiving her associate degree. She transferred to Kent State in 2015 for her junior year.

In order to test the operation and integrity of the power generation, control and distribution systems, a test of the turbines will be performed on Monday, Nov. 12, when the university will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.

Kent State University's holiday closure for 2024 will begin Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. All offices will re-open on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. Employees not eligible for the paid leave include student employees, classified temporary staff, temporary agency staff, short-term unclassified appointments, unclassified intermittent appointments and employees in a lay-off status. More information on the holiday schedule, including how employees should report time during that period, will be available later this month.
Testing Your Faith Act (H.B. 353) was enacted in the Spring 2023 semester. In ordinance with this bill, Kent State University created a new administrative policy for religious and spiritual accommodations. This administrative policy allows students to report up to three days of unexcused absences to participate in religious holidays or community-held events in alignment with their spirituality.
