Bethany Lanese, Ph.D., assistant professor of health policy and management with the College of Public Health, received the Silver Award in Teaching Development by the Kent State University’s Center for Teaching and Learning. Lanese was recognized for the design and implementation of the Medicare/Medicaid learning module she developed for the graduate and undergraduate Health Care System courses.

Lanese created the interactive module about Medicare/Medicaid in Summer 2020, while participating in the ‘Innovation Intersession Flipping your Classroom’ through the Center for Teaching and Learning. The module was recognized as a best practice for instruction and awarded with the Bronze Award in Teaching Development in April 2021. After using it and implementing it throughout her Health Care System classes, in February 2022 Lanese received the Silver Award. The Silver Teaching Recognition Award recognizes instructors who implement and reflect on the results of their project.

"Many students struggle with the Medicare and Medicaid topics,” explains Lanese. “The updates to the module really seemed to help with student learning and really solidified the differences between these two programs,” she adds.
