Welcome to Flash Focus! In this series, we introduce you to fascinating student Flashes from all walks of life.
Meet Morgan Bedilion, a senior costume design technology and production major from Hartville, Ohio. With an educational background in the Miller South School for the Visual Arts and Akron School for the Arts at Firestone CLC, Bedilion considers herself an Akronite.
Bedilion’s interest in historical fashion and previous interest in musical theater motivated her to change her major to costume design technology and production shortly after becoming a Golden Flash.
“I immediately fell in love with the behind-the-scenes process as well as the ability to create worlds with just the stitch of a needle,” Bedilion told Kent State Today.
Bedilion is back at the Firestone Theater as the costume designer for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” She is grateful to be back and to design for the show's premier in Ohio.
“As a lifelong Harry Potter fan, it was a great experience going into the source material and making it my own style while staying true to the story and characters,” said Bedilion. “It is rewarding coming back and working with them from a different place in my career.”
Bedilion also managed the costumes to the production of “Six the Musical” at Firestone this semester.
“I am very fortunate to have made my hobby a career and it's the joy of doing the work that keeps me going,” Bedilion said. “It is so rewarding to watch it all come together into something magical at the end.”
During the summer, Bedilion was involved in the behind the scenes work at the Porthouse Theatre – Kent State University's professional summer theatre – as a stitcher, dresser and assistant costume designer.
“It was really great to experience all of these roles in a professional space while having the Kent State faculty guide me along the way,” Bedilion said. “This experience also opened the door for me to work as a student-employee within the costume shop this semester.”
Bedilion is a member of the Honors College and Alpha Lambda Delta. She has received the Academic Achievement Award and Honors Distinction Award.
