Outstanding fall enrollment numbers show more students choosing to remain at Kent State and join strong incoming class. Last year's first-year students returned to continue their education at a rate not seen since 2015 as Kent State University boasted an outstanding 82% retention rate.

  • A Kent State staffer and her dog helped add excitement to the Golden Flashes football home opener with a fuzzy, fantastic halftime show. 

  • Robert Slade said that instead of walking his normal path across the Eastway Dining Hall during his shift one day, he abruptly took a different route, and that small decision put him in the right place to save a life.

  • The College of Aeronautics and Engineering unveiled a new way for the Kent State community to relax, destress and get themselves back into the proper headspace. The Mind Space is designed to be an oasis of tranquility accessible to all. It's a personalized and holistic focus to help everyone on campus be successful.

Global Reach

  • A long-term study of butterfly populations in Ohio's Cuyahoga Valley National Park is shedding light on ecological changes and the impacts of human activities on local ecosystems. The study, which has been ongoing since the 1990s, represents one of the longest-running volunteer-driven insect surveys in North America. Experts from Kent State’s Department of Biological Sciences are working to interpret 20-plus years’ worth of data and convey what it means for environmental conservation.

  • For the past month, Kent State University has hosted 37 international graduate students as part of the Fulbright Pre-Academic Program, a monthlong immersion in American higher education and culture. The group, from 26 countries, arrived on the Kent Campus on July 21 and was scheduled to depart on Aug. 17 to begin their graduate programs at universities throughout the country.

  • Alumna Keri Richmond knew after her first semester that she wanted to do more for communities, especially foster children. In a recent op-ed in The Columbus Dispatch, Richmond connected her experience in foster care to Simone Biles in light of her Olympic comeback.
