In late September, children and parents from Kent State University's Child Development Center participated in the center's annual Walkathon fundraiser for their Outdoor Learning Laboratory. This year, the group walked from the Child Development Center to the Kent Student Center.
The center's Outdoor Learning Laboratory provides children with unique, hands-on learning experiences in environments outside of the classroom. The area, opened in September 2013, includes an amphitheater, bike paths, wildflower patches, a garden, a mud kitchen, a bottle house, climbing structures, sandy spots, water features and an open field.
These laboratory experiences in nature let "kids do things that kids do" in both guided and unstructured outdoor experiences in playing, walking barefoot, building things, gardening and more.
