New Business Continues to Grow in the City of Kent

Get to know the more than 20 new businesses that have opened in Kent from 2020-March 2023.

Businesses open, businesses close, new businesses take their place. In the past three years (and counting) more than 20 new businesses have opened their doors in Kent, Ohio.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Especially notable is that the majority of these businesses opened and remained in business during the COVID-19 pandemic, an event that many businesses didn’t survive.

Please recognize – and patronize – these businesses and all the others that make Kent, Ohio, a great college town and one of the nation’s best hometowns.

North Water Brewing Company

Opened in 2020

 - Beauty services for eyebrows and eyelashes. 

 - Craft brewery and taproom.

 (returned to previously occupied location) - Health-oriented, create-your-own sandwich chain.

Dirty Skate Company

Opened in 2021

- Neighborhood brewery, serving beer, cocktails and seasonal cuisine. 

- Offering skateboards, apparel and more. 

- Regional business (three locations on Ohio) offering fresh fruit bowls and smoothies.

- Locally made Kent and Kent State T-shirts, hoodies and accessories.

-  Juice bar, specializing in beverages and foods made from quality, healthy ingredients. 

Cleveland Bagel Cafe Kent

Opened in 2022

- Serving signature cocktails, beer and wine in a unique bar atmosphere.

- "Turning clothing waste into sustainable fashion," this shop offers vintage clothing, sneakers and more.

- Cleveland-style bagels are the base for an all-day menu of sandwiches, coffee and more.

- Offering a selection of indoor plants and plant-centric products. 

- A "family-friendly rock and hippie shop" with rocks, crystals, jewelry and accessories.

Opened in 2023

- Locally owned and operated convenience store. 

- Fresh, made-to-order authentic Mexican cuisine. 

- Expert laser hair removal services. 

- Independent, full-service financial planning.

 - Specialty cupcake shop with handcrafted coffee drinks. 

- Upcycled and ethically sourced clothing, jewelry and accessories.

- Offering clothing, jewelry, bath and body products, accessories and gift items.

- Online specialty cake pop business, soon to be in a brick-and-mortar shop.

- Family-friendly lounge for tabletop games and events.

Michelle Hartman, interim executive director of the , assisted in assembling this list of Kent’s newest businesses. She said, “As a chamber of commerce, we recognize that a concerted and collaborative effort amongst our city, Kent State, and our business and community leaders is essential in bringing new opportunities for business growth.â€
