Wild (West) Sex Week

Kent Interhall Council's sex education programming begins this week

Kent State University's Sex Week begins today. Kent Interhall Council has been putting together a week of “Wild West”-style events educating students about sex.

"The mission of sex week is to bring sex education to college students so they can be informed about the good and bad topics surrounding sex," said Yewande Odunaiya-Moore, assistant director of Student Engagement & Leadership in University Housing, and the advisor for the council. "I commend my students for not shying away from the topic."

Friday, Oct. 27

Students can learn self-defense mechanisms at the Recreation and Wellness Center at 11 a.m. The class also will offer practice in identifying unsafe situations. After, free smoothies will be provided.

To "wrap it up," the council’s Sex Week, is Sextoberfest in the Kent Student Center Ballroom at 7 p.m., which is a night full of educational games, free t-shirts and prizes.

"The benefit of the week is students have a safe space to discuss important but sometimes controversial topics," Odunaiya-Moore said. "This is a no-judgment zone — the goal is to educate while also having fun.  The icing on that cake is that we give away lots of free swag and prizes during this week."
