Teachers … learn more about Excite to Write
Excite to Write exists to recognize the excellent work produced by student writers before they enter college because good writing skills matter and should be rewarded. The program also looks to strengthen Kent State Trumbull’s connection with local high teachers and school students, which make up most of its student body.
- What is Excite to Write?
Excite to Write is an essay writing contest launched by Kent State University at Trumbull for area high school students enrolled in junior, senior, and Honors English courses.
- What types of submissions are acceptable?
We welcome any papers your students have written for one of your courses during the past two semesters. The focus is on both academic writing, such as essays and research papers, and on fiction, such as short stories and poetry. - What are the prizes?
Four seniors will be awarded a $750 scholarship to Kent State University at Trumbull. - What is the application process?
Students are to email their submissions - in Word or PDF formats - or emailed to awetzl@kent.edu or canacci@kent.edu - What do you need from me, the teacher?
Help us get the word out! Talk to your students and encourage them to submit their best work. We can also send a flyer along for display in your classroom. Fliers can be requested from either Ana Wetzl, Ph.D. or Jim Canacci.
Important dates:
- November 1: Submission period begins.
- January 25: Submission period ends.
- Mid-February 2018: Winners notified and essays published online.
